LanguageTool is an Open Source language checker for the English and German language. It knows rules to detect typical errors that a simple spell checker cannot detect. Version 0.8.2 has just been released. If you're a native speaker of German and write a text in English (or vice versa), LanguageTool can now warn you if you're using a "false friend", i.e. an English word that sounds like a German word but has a different meaning (e.g. become / bekommen).
