Man sollte meinen, dass eine Rechtschreibprüfung in der Lage ist, Rechtschreibfehler zu finden. Leider ist das wohl nicht so einfach, wie ein Test von Björn Jacke ergeben hat. Nicht nur bei der zugegeben schwer in den Griff zu bekommenden Kompositabildung im Deutschen scheitern die meisten Programme.

Zum Selbertesten empfehle ich auch meine Sammlung von (wahrscheinlich) falschen Wörtern und die von richtigen Wörtern.

As mentioned before, Hunspell now supports German compound words like the famous Donaudampfschiffahrt provided that you have the appropriate dictionary. But how to make sure Hunspell doesn't accept all compound words like Ärztetreuhund (instead of Ärztetreuhand)? Over the last months I have collected a list of more or less bizarre incorrect German words, some of them compounds. For example: Beifallsturm, Bindestrick, Bruttoregistertannen, Einbruchsdiebstuhl, Walkabine. Not all of these errors have appeared in real life yet, but of course we need to make sure a spell checker would detect them as errors. The full list can be viewed here in CVS.

A new OpenOffice.org snapshot has been released. It's the first snapshot that replaces MySpell with Hunspell. Together with the appropriate dictionaries this improves German spell checking dramatically: now many compound words like "Computerarbeitsplatzes" are finally accepted.
